4 Ways to Actually Hit Your 2019 Career Resolutions

January 2nd, 2019

2019 is finally here! Which means a clean slate to do all the things you’ve been pushing off for the last 364 days. Let the New Year’s Resolutions begin! Starting January 1st two types of people begin to surface. First, you have the go-getters, who have made their list, shared it across social media, and are ready to hold themselves 100% accountable. On the flipside, you have people that already posted their New Years Resolution #fail meme on Instagram, just a few days in. No matter what type of person you are, one thing is for sure; the gym is going to be absolutely mobbed these new few weeks!

The infamous “list” always has the same players year in and year out. According to Inc, the top 10 New Years Resolutions in 2019 are around success and happiness. 2 of the top 10 resolutions are to learn a new skill/hobby and find another job. So you’ve thrown on the Gary V podcast and are ready to quit your job and start up a new empire. However, the truth is only 8% of people are successful in achieving their goals. So we are here to help.

Here are the top 4 ways to accomplish your “career” focused New Year’s Resolutions – because let’s be honest, there are enough Health & Food blogs  out there already.

  1. Find a hot new industry – If you haven’t found your dream job then maybe it’s time to look for a more fulfilling role or industry. If you know your passion then you are ahead of the game. If not, no worries, start with some of the growing industries in 2019. According to MSN, some of the top industries include Tech/Gaming, Professional Services like Dog Walking/Photography, the Cannabis Industry, Drone Technology, E-commerce, Big Data, and Cosmetics. If none of these get you excited, then keep searching!
  2. Read one career-related book  – It’s time to immerse yourself in this new industry and role. According to TopResume, reading a career book is the #3 goal you’ll be able to keep. If you start reading a book about your new career and you can’t get past page 10 without turning on Netflix, then chances are this may not be for you. This is a super easy way to see if your passion lies between the pages.
  3. Treat yourself and take a course – Once you’ve found something that has your attention, it’s time to start learning! It’s one thing to talk about a new career, but going out and committing to a class will be the first step in determining if this is truly something you are passionate about. Do your research – look for reviews and testimonials from previous students to make sure it is worth the investment.
  4. Commit to a goal – Now you don’t have to make a vision board or full-blown list but with any resolution, you want to set tangible goals. A goal can be to finish a new course by March 1st, get a certification by April 15th or even complete that book in 30 days. Whatever your goal is set it, and I promise checking that box will be one of the most accomplished moments of your year. Enter motivational picture…here!
