Thinning or Receding Hairline: What Now?
Many people experiencing baldness, thinning hair, or receding hairlines search for remedies and find our services. At Scalp Micro USA, we offer professional scalp micropigmentation or hair tattoo treatment. Here is what you should know about the process of getting a hair tattoo:
What Is a Hair Tattoo?
A hair tattoo is a process also known as scalp micropigmentation (SMP). This is a treatment where a certified SMP practitioner replicates the look of tiny hair follicles. This process is simple and can create a short buzz cut look for those experiencing hair loss or baldness.
At Scalp Micro USA, our practitioners add small dots of pigment to the scalp to create the look of a natural hairline. This treatment can also give you the appearance of having a fresh buzz cut.
Can It Fix My Receding Hairline?
With SMP, we can create the hairline style and color of your choosing. You can ask your practitioner to give you the hairline you had before you started thinning or select a different shape. If you are unsure which hairline best suits you, your practitioner can help you choose one that fits your facial features best. An SMP practitioner can also assist you in choosing the best pigment color for your hair tattoo.
What if I Still Have Hair?
Clients who still have remaining hair may be able to leave it longer. A practitioner can help you decide whether or not you should keep your hair long or cut it short. You can leave your hair longer and get scalp micropigmentation if you have thinning spots, as it can help your hair look thicker. For those with thinner hair or specific hair patterns, we may recommend that the hair be cut shorter.
What Happens During the Procedure?
After speaking with a practitioner to discuss your goals, we will schedule your first appointment. You will undergo the treatment for two to four hours at your first appointment. Most scalp micropigmentation treatment plans require more than one treatment to achieve the best look. Your practitioner can determine how many sessions you may need, which can range from two to four sessions. We schedule each session 10-14 days apart to allow for healing in between.
To make sure that your hair tattoo heals properly, we suggest avoiding the sun, pools, saunas, steam rooms, or other activities that may induce sweating. We also recommend not scrubbing or washing your hair and scalp for four to five days after treatment.
Directly after treatment, you may notice some reddening which should go away after a few days. After your first session, it is unlikely that you will see immediate results; this is normal. Your second and third sessions can give you a more defined look, and the fourth session can solidify results.
How Long Does It Last?
Our treatment can last you from four to six years after your final treatment. It is normal to experience some fading over time. This can be treated by coming in for a touch-up appointment. The touch-up can help prolong your scalp micropigmentation treatment for many years.
What Does Scalp Micropigmentation Cost?
During your free consultation with a specialist, we can give you a better idea of what cost you are looking at. The price of scalp micropigmentation can range from $2,500 to $4,000, depending on the amount of thinning your hair has and the end goal you’d like to achieve.
Does It Look Natural?
Some clients may be unsure if scalp micropigmentation is right for them. One of the great things about a hair tattoo is that it is often subtle and undetectable. Our professional SMP practitioners can replicate each individual hair follicle for a seamless, natural look. We have worked with clients with lighter and darker skin tones and can see the same results. Clients with graying hair can also benefit from our services. Our gray-scale pigment can be adjusted to match lighter or darker hair tones. If you’d like to see the results for yourself, you can find before and after photos of our hair tattoos on our website.
